A tree survey sees us collect data on trees that can be given back to business owners to help them make decisions for their site. t in making decisions. We’ll note the species, age, number, location, crown spread, root protection areas and general condition of your trees.

Tree surveys can be required by law to help protect and conserve threatened tree species, as well as ones covered by TPOs.

The British Standard for trees in relation to design, demolition and construction also says that ‘appropriate measures should be taken to assess existing trees on and adjacent to a site where any new development is proposed.

We work with many clients planning developments and can give you all the information you need for your application to the local planning authority.

Commercial Tree Survery FAQs

This can be a little confusing, and there’s a lot of conflicting information out there! If you are extending the footprint of a building and no new service lines or change of access is proposed, then you aren’t likely to require one. If you are making any of those changes, though, then you will need to present a tree survey report along with your plans. This will need to cover trees on and adjacent to your site, along with those that stand within 15 metres of any new building, new service line or new access.

In the case of new buildings, tree surveys are required of all trees on the site and within 15 metres of the boundary.

It does depend on your situation. It is a legal necessity during the planning application process for many kinds of development projects. For business owners, it is also necessary to fulfil your duty of care obligations under the Occupiers Liability Act to prevent injury. If in doubt, we can advise you on whether a survey is needed for your tree. It is also a good idea to get in touch with your local authority.
